Team Leader Peer Support Specialist Service

This service has Peer Support Specialists with their own lived experience in Mental Health and/or Addiction. The Peer Support Specialists engage with Tāngata Whai Ora building trust and rapport through awhi and manaakitanga. Connecting authentically, learning and growing together. We help people to grow confidence by sharing and validating world view, personal values and journeys of recovery and wellbeing. By sharing experiences, identifying directly with struggles and achievements, finding purpose in each other’s journey, with the view that this engagement model will benefit people as they take this effective communication into other relationships. Mutuality is a fundamental component of Peer Support.

Arataki Peer Support Specialists all have lived experience either with mental health and or addictions.

Peer Support Specialists walk alongside people, accepting people unconditionally, assisting people in their recovery, instilling hope and promoting wellbeing.

Referral Process: Peer Support Specialists are available through your community mental health nurse.

Please be aware that there is no referral form for the Peer Support Specialist Service on the Arataki Ministries Website – All referrals come through Te Whatu Ora Mental Health and Addiction Services Te Taitokerau. Please talk to your Community Mental Health Nurse or Doctor to have a referral made.
